AMANT, ANNA WEBB "NANCY" A beloved wife, mother, grandmother and friend, she died peacefully at her home on Wednesday, July 25, 2007, surrounded by family. She was born June 23, 1919, in Demopolis, Ala., daughter of the late John Cox and Anna Garber Webb. She attended Ursuline College in New Orleans and was a graduate of the University of Alabama. Her 56 years in Baton Rouge were filled with rearing and loving her family. She is survived by four daughters, Anna Wilkinson, Julie St. Amant and Marianne St. Amant, all of Baton Rouge, and Susan Baumler and husband Bill of Marco Island, Fla.; four sons, John St. Amant, Guy St. Amant and wife Julia, and Marshall St. Amant and wife Gabriella, all of Baton Rouge, and Jim St. Amant and wife Kathy of Baltimore; a sister, Sarah Webb McCollum of Greensboro, Ala.; two sisters- in-law, MaryAnn Scarle of Hammond and Monroe St. Amant of Atlanta; 10 grandchildren, Will Wilkinson and wife Lisa, J.W., Aimee, Guy, Michael, Ysabella, Marshall and Ethan St. Amant, and William and Frances Baumler; two great-grandchildren, Carter and Jack Wilkinson; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Alvin Francis St. Amant; an infant son, Alvin Francis Jr.; and two sisters and three brothers. Visitation at Sacred Heart Catholic Church on Saturday, July 28, from 9 a.m. until a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m., with the Rev. Donald Blanchard, celebrant. Pallbearers will be her grandsons. The family would like to express their sincere thanks and appreciation to dear family friend, Jacqueline O'Niell, to the nurses and staff at St. Joseph Hospice, especially Nerissa VanDeWalker, R.N., and to loving caregivers Janice Antoine, Rena Barber and Mamie Miller. AMANT, MONROE YOUNG Monroe Young St. Amant, 93, died Wednesday, April 28, 2010. She was a longtime resident of Hammond and a member of the First Presbyterian Church. She was born on March 17, 1917, in Livingston, Ala. She was the beloved mother of Joseph Lyle S. St. Amant, of New Orleans, Dr. Katherine Adair St. Amant McClugage and husband Dr. Sam G. McClugage Jr., of Hammond, and Dr. William Clark St. Amant and wife Barbara Powell St. Amant, of Atlanta. She is also survived by five grandchildren, Trey McClugage, Guy St. Amant, Frances St. Amant, Clark St. Amant, and Will St. Amant. Other survivors include a sister, Gessner Young Galloway, of Charlottesville, Va.; sister- in-law, MaryAnn St. Amant Scarle, of Hammond; niece, Colleen Scarle, of Hammond; and many other devoted nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband of nearly 40 years, Dr. Lyle S. St. Amant; parents, Elisha Ashe Young and Katherine Adair Clark Young; brothers, Joseph and Crawford; sisters, Nan, Adair, Martha and Agnes; sister-in-law, Nancy St. Amant; and brothers-in-law, Dr. Alvin St. Amant and Dr. Marshall Scarle. She received her bachelor's degree in 1937 from LSU, where she was elected into the academic national honor society, Phi Kappa Phi, and was a member of Alpha Chi Omega social sorority. In 1939, she received a master's degree in zoology from LSU. She married in 1942, and while Lyle was in the South Pacific during World War II, Monroe served with the American Red Cross. After the war, they returned to Baton Rouge, but moved to Hammond in 1955, when her children were ages 9, 6 and 3. She was very active in her church and the community of Hammond. Some of her community activities included volunteering for hospice, the Shop for Habitat and the Salvation Army. She was a member of the Round Table, Night Book Club and DAR. Monroe left Hammond in 2000 to live in an assisted living facility in New Orleans. In August 2005, after Hurricane Katrina, she left the city of New Orleans via helicopter which she found exciting. It was a last grand adventure among a life of travel, camel and hot air balloon rides, and African safaris. Graveside service will be held on Friday, May 7, at 10 a.m. at Rose Memorial Park Cemetery, Hammond. A memorial service celebrating her wonderful life will follow at 11 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church, Hammond, officiated by Dr. F. James Stayton. Following the church service, a reception will be held in the Fellowship Hall at the First Presbyterian Church at noon. Memorials may be made to the First Presbyterian Church, Hammond, or a charity of choice. Arrangements are being handled by Harry McKneely & Son Funeral Home Inc., Hammond.
