Homer A. Starns, age 72, passed away on Friday, August 31, 2012 at the Baton Rouge General Medical Center after a courageous battle with lung cancer. He was retired and was resident of the City of Central, LA. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and a member of Cedarcrest Baptist Church in Baton Rouge, LA. Visitation will be held at Rabenhorst East Funeral Home at 11000 Florida Blvd. on Tuesday, September 4, 2012 at 8 am followed by a service conducted by Rev. Joseph E. Starns at 10 am and interment at McInnis Cemetery in Anacoco, Louisiana at 3 pm. Homer is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Gaila McInnis Starns; a son, Kevin Starns of Spring, TX; a daughter, Karin Starns LeJeune and her husband Richie; sisters Abilene Davis of Pumpkin Center and Stella Guy of Walker; brothers Rev. Joseph E. Starns and his wife Nettie of Holden and D.L. Starns and his wife Joyce of Denham Springs, LA; a grandson, Hunter Starns of Madison, MS; two granddaughters, Lia LeJeune of Central and Presley Starns of Spring, TX; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents Leo and Josephine Starns and parents-in-law Clyde and Myrtle McInnis. Pallbearers are Kevin Starns, Richie LeJeune, Steve Cutrer, Kent Landacre, Byron Starns and Gary Starns. Honorary pallbearers are Larry Marino, Hunter Starns and Russell Starns. He was 79 and born in Holden. He was a graduate of Holden High School and attended Southeastern Louisiana University, Hammond, Howard University, Alabama, and LSU Medical School, New Orleans, receiving his M.D. in 1960. He interned at Baptist Hospital in Nashville, Tenn., and began his practice of family medicine at Livingston in 1961, later moving it to Holden and then Hammond. He was also an ordained minister, former youth pastor and choir director. He served as a lieutenant commander in the U.S. Navy. She was a resident of Hammond. Victoria was born on Jan. 28, 1907, to Homer and Tinse McDaniel, near Spring Creek. She graduated from Spring Creek High School, Louisiana State Normal College (now Northwestern State University), and Southeastern Louisiana University. She taught in the public school system of Tangipahoa Parish from 1926 to 1968, and took great pleasure in seeing children learn and grow. She began her teaching career at the Scanlan School, near Spring Creek. Later she taught at Spring Creek and Tickfaw, then completed her teaching career at Hammond Eastside Elementary School, where she taught fifth grade from 1956 through 1968. Victoria Starns was a member of Woodland Park Baptist Church in Hammond and taught Sunday school for many years. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Edgar and Kay Starns of Baton Rouge; two grandchildren, Karl and Monica Starns; sisters-in-law, Joan Starns, Marie Starns, Iris McDaniel and Natalie McDaniel; and numerous nieces and nephews. Victoria McDaniel Starns married Edgar Starns of Independence on March 25, 1938, and they enjoyed 44 years of marriage until Edgar's death in 1982. Victoria was preceded in death by her parents, Homer and Tinse McDaniel; and siblings, Dwilla McDaniel, Audrey Doolan, Nettie Walker, Roger McDaniel and Talmadge McDaniel.
