PONCHATOULA - Walter Owen Steinwinder Jr., 75, died Saturday, Feb. 8, 2003, at North Oaks Medical Center, Hammond. A native of Bogalusa and resident of Ponchatoula, he was an honorary member of Pine Grove Masonic Lodge of Ponchatoula, past master of the William D. White Masonic Lodge of Gretna, past High Priest of St. John Chapter 98, past illustrious minister of St. John Council 41, past commander of indivisible friends commandary 1 and past president of Jerusalem Temple Motorcycle Unit. He held the Knights York Cross of Honor. Survivors include his wife, Barbara Coon Steinwinder of Ponchatoula; a son, James "J.B." Steinwinder of Everett, Wash.; two daughters, Victoria Viars of Lacomb and Kelly Lear of LaPlace; two brothers, David Lawrence Steinwinder of Bogalusa, and Jan O. Steinwinder of Folsom; and three grandchildren. His parents were the late Walter Sr. and Balzora Alford Steinwinder. A sister, Lila Faye Steinwinder, also preceded him in death. Visitation will be at Harry McKneely & Son Funeral Home, Hammond, Tuesday from 6 to 10 p.m. with a service at 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Knights of Templar Foundation.
