He was born Monday, May 15, 1922, in Crandall, Ga. He was a retired U.S. Marine and a masseur. He was also president of the Altoona, Pa., Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. He is survived by two sisters, Janet Stokes Redicker of Florida and Carolyn Stokes Tyler of South Carolina; and a brother, Charles T. Stokes of Tennessee. He was preceded in death by his wife, Violet Brannen Stokes; parents, Robert R. Stokes and Sally Turner Stokes; and four brothers, James Grady Stokes, F.C. Stokes, Robert Stokes and John R. Stokes.
