GREENSBURG - Dr. L. E. Stringer, 69, died Saturday, June 15, 2002, at his home in Greensburg. He was a native of Bassfield, Miss. He was a graduate of the University of Mississippi Medical School. He later opened the St. Helena Parish Hospital, where he served as chief of Staff for 15 years. He was coroner for St. Helena Parish for 36 years. He also founded P.A.W.S., St. Helena's animal adoption agency, and St. Helena Citizens for Good Government, Inc. He was a United States Army veteran and a member of Greensburg First Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife, Louise Smith Stringer; three daughters and a son-in-law, Susan and Missy Stringer, and Kim and Michael Baylis; one sister, Ruby Bryant; and one brother, Dr. Kenneth Stringer. He was preceded in death by his parents, Hollie and Mattie Mae Miller Stringer; two brothers, Lewis and Shelby Stringer; and one sister, Vivian Jones. A memorial service will be held at Greensburg First Baptist Church at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Parish Animal Adoption Society in care of Natalie Halford at P.O. Box 243, Greensburg, LA 70441.
