Burial was in Ponchatoula Cemetery. *************************************************************************** Obituary published in The Advocate (Baton Rouge): 3/24/2009 STROTHER, DORIS A resident of Albany and a prior resident of Baton Rouge for more than 50 years, Ms. Doris was the blessed age of 87 when she went to be with her Lord on Monday, March 23, 2009, at North Oaks Medical Center, Hammond. Her hobby was crocheting, but her love was spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a member of Eagle Heights Community Church in Hammond. Doris is survived by her devoted daughter, Myrtis Kitchens, of Albany; four sons, Gene Strother and wife Sherry, of Gonzales, Ronnie Strother and wife Barbara, of Port Allen, Jerry Strother and wife Gayle, of Anahuac, Texas, and Charles Strother and wife Sharon, of Baton Rouge. She leaves behind one sister, Natalie Bethard, of Shreveport, along with 17 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren. Preceding Doris in death were her husband, Ira Strother; son, Paul Strother; and two sisters, Evelyn Witty and Katherine Stevens. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the funeral services from the chapel of Brandon G. Thompson Funeral Home, west of Hammond, on Wednesday, March 25, at 11 a.m. with visitation beginning at 9 a.m., the Rev. Kevin Dunn will officiate the services and interment will follow in New Haven Cemetery, Tickfaw.
