A beloved daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend, she passed peacefully surrounded by family in her home on the Amite River in Port Vincent on Friday, Feb. 21, 2003. She was born on March 8, 1947. Until the end of her lengthy battle with cancer, she inspired her family and friends with her strength, faith and her amazing sense of humor. A native of Baton Rouge, she was a gifted artist, accomplished pianist, avid quilter, inspirational teacher, enthusiastic gardener and loving "Honey." After receiving a bachelor's degree in zoology from LSU in Baton Rouge in 1968, she went on to receive her master's degree in biological sciences from LSU in New Orleans in 1971. She was also a certified safety professional. For the past 10 years, she was employed by ExxonMobil. Most recently, she was the safety advisor for ExxonMobil Baton Rouge Complex and chaired the curriculum development committee for the safety hygiene program, for which she taught at Southeastern Louisiana University in Hammond. Prior to ExxonMobil, she worked as a safety compliance officer for OSHA in Arkansas and Maryland. In the early 1970s she assisted Dr. Luther Travis in medical research in the field of pediatric nephrology at the University of Texas Medical Branch, Galveston. She also spent many fulfilling years as a teacher of biologic sciences at Old Dominican in New Orleans, physics at Mount Carmel Catholic School in New Iberia and art in her former studio in New Iberia. She was also very active in professional and community organizations. She is survived by her devoted husband of 16 years, Daniel A. A resident of Roseland, he died at 3:40 a.m. Saturday, May 12, 2001, at North Oaks Medical Center, Hammond. He was 86 and a native of Amite. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. Visitation at McKneely Funeral Home, Amite, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday, including Masonic services. Visitation at the funeral home from 8 a.m. until religious services at 1 p.m. Monday. Interment in Killian Chapel Cemetery, Amite. Survived by two daughters, Delores Martin, Amite, and Marlane Cassels, Denham Springs; two sons, Wheeler D. Sullivan, Loranger, and Joseph Moore, Independence; a brother, John L. Sullivan, Denham Springs; five grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and five great-great- grandchildren.
