SUMLIN, RUBY BAYGENTS
Ruby Baygents Sumlin was born December 8, 1922, and passed away at 11 p.m., 
Wednesday, May 9, 2012, at her residence surrounded by her loving family. 
She was 89, a native of Waynesboro, Miss., and a resident of Kentwood.
Ms. Ruby is survived by a son, Paul "Frankie" Shirley and wife Faye; 
daughter, Billie Rose Ferrino; 2 brothers, Henry L. Baygents and wife 
Rachel and Bodie Baygents; sister-in-law, Ina Mae Baygents; 8 
grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; 4 great great-grandchildren; 
numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.  Preceded in death by her 
husband, William Oliver Sumlin; parents, Walter W. and Phoebe McMichael 
Baygents; daughter, Ruby Jewel Sumlin; grandson, Paul Shirley, Jr. 3 
brothers, James, Erastus and Leonard Baygents; sister, Frances Busby.
Visitation at McKneely and Vaughn Funeral Home, Amite, on Monday, May 14, 
2012, from 9 a.m. until Celebration of Life Services at 11 a.m. in the 
funeral home Chapel. Interment in Jefferson Memorial Gardens, St. Rose, La.

SUMLIN, RUBY JEWEL
Ruby Jewel Sumlin was born October 29, 1946 and passed away at 1:35 p.m., 
Sunday, October 4, 2009 at LSU Health System Lallie Kemp Regional Medical 
Center, Independence. She was 62. a native of Fort Hood, TX and a resident 
of Kentwood.  Mrs. Ruby is survived by her mother, Ruby B. Sumlin, 
Kentwood; a daughter & son-in-law, Sibyl Birkel Cannon and husband, Pete, 
Kentwood; 2 sons & daughters-in-law, Ulysses Birkel and wife, Gwen, Kenner 
and Tony Birkel and wife, Terrie, Kenner; 5 grandchildren, Adam Birkel, 
Ashley Birkel, Elizabeth Birkel, Will Cannon, & (on the way) Phoebe 
Cannon; a sister, Billie Rose Ferrino, Slidell; a brother & sister-in-law, 
Paul "Frankie" Shirley & wife, Faye, Chalmette; numerous extended family.
Preceded in death by her father, William Oliver Sumlin.  Visitation will 
be at McKneely & Vaughn Funeral Home, Amite, on Thursday, October 8, 2009 
from 2:00 p.m. until Religious Services at 5:00 p.m. in the funeral home 
Chapel with Pastor Vince Falcone officiating.  In lieu of flowers the 
family request donations be made to Lallie Kemp Foundation,(In Memory of 
Ruby Jewel Sumlin LeBlanc) 52579 Hwy 51 South, Independence, LA 70443.
