She was 89, a native of Waynesboro, Miss., and a resident of Kentwood. Ms. Ruby is survived by a son, Paul "Frankie" Shirley and wife Faye; daughter, Billie Rose Ferrino; 2 brothers, Henry L. Baygents and wife Rachel and Bodie Baygents; sister-in-law, Ina Mae Baygents; 8 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; 4 great great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and extended family. Preceded in death by her husband, William Oliver Sumlin; parents, Walter W. and Phoebe McMichael Baygents; daughter, Ruby Jewel Sumlin; grandson, Paul Shirley, Jr. 3 brothers, James, Erastus and Leonard Baygents; sister, Frances Busby. She was 62. a native of Fort Hood, TX and a resident of Kentwood. Mrs. Ruby is survived by her mother, Ruby B. Sumlin, Kentwood; a daughter & son-in-law, Sibyl Birkel Cannon and husband, Pete, Kentwood; 2 sons & daughters-in-law, Ulysses Birkel and wife, Gwen, Kenner and Tony Birkel and wife, Terrie, Kenner; 5 grandchildren, Adam Birkel, Ashley Birkel, Elizabeth Birkel, Will Cannon, & (on the way) Phoebe Cannon; a sister, Billie Rose Ferrino, Slidell; a brother & sister-in-law, Paul "Frankie" Shirley & wife, Faye, Chalmette; numerous extended family.
