Barry John Talbot Sr., 66, and a retired tenured professor of international business at Southeastern Louisiana University in Hammond, passed away surrounded by his family on Wednesday, Oct. 1, 2008. He was a native of Morgan City and a graduate of LSU. In 1963, he moved to Fort Leonardwood, Mo., where he served as an officer in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. He received a master's degree from Drury College while working for Rocketdyne. He returned to Morgan City in 1966 where he was employed by Seward Seacraft. In 1970, he was a regional product manager for Ethyl Corp. of Baton Rouge where he traveled to many parts of the world including Indonesia, Singapore and Africa. Barry served as president of the Civitan Club, belonged to Rotary and other various civic organizations. In Baton Rouge, Barry was involved in entrepreneurial endeavors in real estate, liquidation of companies, auctions and appraisals. He mentored young people in their educational endeavors. Barry was very proud of his children and his grandchildren. He was a great father, "Poppa" and friend. He was an inspiration to many. He was preceded in death by his parents, Winnfield and Edna Bergeron Talbot, who were of Morgan City. Surviving children are René Talbot and her husband, Mark Mallory, of Huntsville, Ala., John and his wife, Linda, and Paul and his wife, Amiee; and their mother, Sybil Autin Talbot; grandchildren, Layne, Claire, Alyssa and Tyler; close friend and confidant, Robbie Mayberry; brothers, Dick, of Baton Rouge, and Dale, of Covington; and sister, Linda Boudreaux, of Lafayette. Visitation was at Greenoaks Funeral Home, 9595 Florida Blvd., on Friday from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Visitation resumed at the funeral home on Saturday from 8 a.m. until service at 10 a.m. in the chapel. Burial in Greenoaks Memorial Park.
