"JIM" "BUZZ" Retired from the U.S. Department of Agriculture, he died Monday, April 10, 2006, at North Oaks Medical Center in Hammond. He was 70, a resident of Maurepas and native of Dry Prong. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps for eight years and was a veteran of the Korean War and served in the U.S. Army for five years. Graveside service at Oak Grove Baptist Church Cemetery, La. 8, Colfax, at 1 p.m. Thursday, April 13. Burial in the church cemetery. Survived by his sister, Johnnie Aymond of Lafayette; brother and sister-in-law, Jerry "Cotton" and Lee Tarter of Denham Springs; special friend, Ruby Hill of Maurepas; and loving nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, James M. and Macie Lee Chandler Tarter; brothers, Reginald, Cecil, Durward, Melvin and Denver Tarter and Maurice Hammons; sisters, Lois Walker, Yvonne Tarter, Winnifred Sweeney, Elaine Jordan and Anne Tarter Caspari; and a brother (stillborn). He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the National Rifle Association. Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, 10528 Kentshire Drive, Baton Rouge, LA 70810.
