Visitation will be at Ott and Lee Funeral Home in Brandon, Miss., on Monday, March 30, from 9:30 a.m. until a celebration of her life at 11 a.m. Burial will follow at Sand Hill Cemetery in Ponchatoula at 3 p.m. She was born in Deadwood, S.D., on March 4, 1926, to Clarence and Effie Scott. She lived and attended school in Lead, S.D., until going to Washington state to work in the shipyard during the war. There she met her husband, Louis "Terry" Theriot Jr. He was the love of her life and they were made to dance with one another. She brought her children up to love the Lord and to love others. Over the years she adopted many more young people into her heart and always kept the door open to them. She loved nature and was often seen sketching or painting what caught her eye. She was known for her cooking and there were always gatherings of friends around the big table outside, especially during crawfish season. She was a lifelong member of First Baptist Church in Hammond. She taught Sunday school for years ensuring the 7-year-old class knew the hymn "Love Lifted Me." In her final years, she bravely lived with Alzheimer's disease, but it never did take away glimpses of her sweetness and sense of humor. Her parents, husband, son, Terry Scott, and daughter, Sue, preceded her in going home. She leaves behind her loving daughter, Kay Theriot Helms, son-in-law, Reggie, and grandson, Christopher Scott Helms, all of Brandon, Miss.; along with her sisters, Louise Kelley, of Rapid City, S.D., and Leona Zastrow and Loretta Kellogg, both of Sturgis, S.D.; sisters-in-law, Honey Brundage, of Panhrump, Nev., and Mar Korsnack, of Cleveland; and many nieces and nephews. A special thanks to her caregivers at Hospice Ministries and Brandon Nursing Home. The family requests that memorials be given to Crossgates Baptist Church's "Hands of Hope" ministry in Brandon. ************************************************************************* Published in The Hammond Daily Star on 3/11/2001 THERIOT, VERNA CAFFAREL PORT ALLEN - Verna Caffarel Theriot, 90, died Thursday, March 8, 2001, at Flannery Oaks Guest House in Baton Rouge.
