He was 72 and a native of Hicksville, Ohio. He was a U.S. Navy Airman during the Korean conflict from October 1948 through 1954. He was retired from Commercial Intertech as a hydraulic technician. He was past president of a United Auto Workers local and a former city councilman for the town of Hicksville. He was a charter member of the McDonald Coffee Club in Hammond. He is survived by his wife, Consuela V. Thiel, Hammond; three sons and daughters-in-law, Michael and Betty, Hammond, Jon and Carrie, Milwaukee, and Patrick and Erica, Stillwater, Minn.; daughters and a son-in-law, Jan Andrus and Charles, Hammond, and Paula Jefferies, Fort Wayne, Ind.; grandchildren, Brian and wife Sarah, Ryan, Sea, Elizabeth, Sydney and Jessica Thiel, Tara and Brandon Kennedy and Whitney Andrus; a great-granddaughter, Nadia Kennedy-Emerick; and a brother, Leon Wayne Thiel, Hicksville. Preceded in death by his parents, Tellis Timothy and Lura Margaret Kisabeth Thiel. Visitation at Geisler Funeral Home, Ponchatoula, La. 54 N., from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday. Visitation at the funeral home from 8 a.m. to 9:40 a.m. Monday, followed by a funeral procession to Holy Ghost Catholic Church, Hammond, where the Rev. John Pitzer will conduct a 10 a.m. Mass. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations by made to North Oaks Hospice Foundation. ***************************************************************************
