Louise was born in Tangipahoa Parish on March 10, 1917, to the late Alex and Mary Adeline Gatlin Hutchinson. On Jan. 14, 1942, Louise married the love of her life, the late U.S. Army Lt. Woodfin "Hap" Thomas, who was of Summerville, Texas. She was a vibrant lady who loved her family and her church. Until illness beset Louise, she was a very active member of Florida Boulevard Baptist Church. A resident of Baton Rouge, she retired from the Louisiana Department of Labor. Louise and Hap were the proud parents of their surviving children: daughters, Marilyn Thomas, of Baton Rouge, and Sharon Hawkins, of Houston; and son, Craig Thomas, of Deland, Fla. The adoration Louise had for her six surviving grandchildren was immeasurable. They are Eric, Cary, Jinelle, Scott, Holly and Alex. She leaves behind five delightful great-grandsons, Jacob, Luke, Levi, Stetson and Tyson. Her sister, Anita Hutchinson, and brother, Woodrow Hutchinson, preceded her in death. She would have been 79 years of age on February 12. She received a bachelor of arts degree from Southeastern Louisiana University and a master of arts degree from Louisiana State University. Then Jesus said, "Come to me all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest." -Matthew 11:28. On April 10, 2013, Milton Ray Thomas, Sr. was healed in both body and mind. He joined his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ in Heaven. He fought a long and hard battle against Alzheimer's. Milton was born on January 3, 1941, in Independence, Louisiana, along with his twin sister Mildred Faye Thomas. He married his childhood sweetheart, Doris Suzanne Blocker. Together they had two children, Milton Ray Thomas, Jr. and Dana Lynne Thomas. He was a Chief Petty Officer in the United States Navy for 20 years. He was proud of his duty and service to his country. After retiring from the military, he then became captain of the Crash, Fire, and Rescue Squad at Baton Rouge Metro Airport. He retired a second time with 20 years of service to the Baton Rouge community. "Grandchildren are the crowning glory of the aged; parents are pride of their children."-Proverbs 17:6. Milton Ray Thomas III, Arthur Thomas Gordon, Stephen James Thomas and Marla Suzanne Gordon are the grandchildren he loved dearly. He was the proudest grandfather ever. Milton spent his time and energy giving his grandchildren experiences and memories to be cherished. His grandchildren adored him and forever will be proud. "But anyone who obeys God's laws and teaches them will be called great in the Kingdom of Heaven."-Matthew 5:19. Later in life, Milton devoted his time to teaching Sunday school at Red Oak Baptist Church in Livingston. He always enjoyed studying and preparing his lessons. He taught the class for many years until he needed his rest. Milton is survived by his wife Doris Blocker Thomas, his son, Milton Ray Thomas, Jr., and wife Marguerite Gremillion Thomas, his daughter, Dana Thomas Gordon and husband Arthur Gordon, his four grandchildren, three granddogs, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents George Duke Thomas and Lillie Whiddon Thomas, his brothers, George Nelson Thomas and Franklin Davis Thomas, and his twin sister, Mildred Faye Thomas.
