Mr. Tjelmeland was 10 days away from turning 100 years old, but in the hearts of us who love him, we will remember him as accomplishing that mile stone. He was born on Friday, May 5, 1911, in Etne, Norway. He was a veteran of World War II for the Norwegian Military. He was a very skillful carpenter by trade. Mr. Tjelmeland was married to the late Ruth Tjelmeland. Surviving are his son & daughter-in-law, Colonel/Dr. Erik and Patricia Tjelmeland; 3 granddaughters, Andrew and Sarah Beckett, Thomas and Karin Werner, and Brian and Aimee Kirchner; great-grand- daughter, Elleigh Werner; and special friend and caregiver for last 12 years, Pastor Lonnie Nichols and family. A memorial service will be held at Harry McKneely & Son Funeral Home in Hammond, Tuesday, May 3, 2011, at 9:00 AM.
