Visitation will be at St. James AME Church Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m., and Friday from 9 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. The Rev. Lloyd Washington will conduct the services at 11 a.m. Survivors include stepmother, Nellie Ricks of Hammond; stepson, Robert Trent of San Diego, California; four sisters, Vivian Ricks Straughter, Waukegan, Illinois, Joyce Ricks Harris, Carona California; Bertha Ricks and Loretta Ricks Gusman of Hammond; seven brothers, Robert Ricks, Cooper Ricks Jr., Joe Ricks Sr., and Leroy Ricks Sr. of Hammond; Calvin Ricks, New Orleans; George Ricks Sr., Highland, California, and Gregory Ricks, San Francisco, California. She was preceded in death by her parents, Viola Myles Ricks and Cooper Ricks Sr.; three brothers, James and Frank Smith and Lymus Ricks; one sister, Lugenia Williams; husband, Joe Trent; and son, James Gordon. She was a retired children's direct care worker, Hammond Head Start Program, and former Sunday School secretary, choir member, mission society secretary and member of the usher board. N.A. James Funeral Home, Hammond, is in charge. ************************************************************************* Obituary published in The Hammond Daily Star on: 10/24/2004 TRENT, JOHN WILLIAM John William Trent, 62, died Friday, Oct. 22, 2004, at his Hammond residence. He was a native of Chattanooga, Tenn., and a mechanic. Survivors include his wife, Judy Davis Trent of Hammond; his sons, John Trent Jr. of Florida and James Trent of Georgia; his daughters, Kathy Thornton of Georgia and Pam Mullins of Indiana; his mother, Gladys Tankersly Trent Knox of Virginia; his brothers, Roy, David and Robby Trent, all of Tennessee; his sister Ruthie Russell of Tennessee; 13 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. His father, Barney E. Trent; his brother, Ronald Trent; his sister, Sybil Land; and one grandchild preceded him in death. Visitation will be Tuesday at Harry McKneely & Son Funeral Home in Ponchatoula from 8 a.m. until the Rev. Billie Kennedy conducts the funeral at 10.
