He was born November 18, 1931 in New Orleans. An attorney who practiced law in four Louisiana parishes: Orleans, Jefferson, Livingston and Tangipahoa, Troyer most recently served as an indigent defender representing the poor in criminal court cases. At the outbreak of the Korean War, Troyer volunteered to serve in the U.S. Air Force and was assigned to duty in France. At the end of a four year hitch in the Air Force he returned to Southeastern Louisiana University where he met and married his wife of 53 years, the former Marie Tucker of Ponchatoula, in 1956. The couple moved to Ponchatoula in 1973. Troyer led a rich life of service in Ponchatoula, in addition to practicing law there. He served as city attorney under the administration of Mayor Charles Gideon: established a sister city exchange program for students and adults with Fontanil, France; founded a local historical society, and co-founded the Ponchatoula Poetry Society, the Krewe of Erin, and the Mayor's Committee for a Better Ponchatoula. Troyer was a society and travel columnist for The Ponchatoula Times. He was preceded in death by his parents, Gordon Troyer and Nona Smith Troyer, and a brother Gordon Troyer Jr. He is survived by his wife, Marie, and their son Matthew and his wife Kety.
