"FRED" A resident of Ponchatoula, Alfred O. "Fred" Tucker Jr. died Friday, Oct. 3, 2008, at his home after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. He was 61, born on Thursday, Dec. 12, 1946. He taught in the Tangipahoa Parish school system for 33 years, spending 24 years coaching football and other sports. He was an active member of the Ponchatoula Volunteer Fire Department for 25 years and a lifelong member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. He was instrumental in introducing the Hunter's Safety Program at Ponchatoula Junior High School. Mr. Tucker was also an avid hunter, fisherman, trapper and outdoor enthusiast. Surviving are his wife of 38 years, Linda Guichet Tucker; a daughter, Tami Tucker York; a son, Spencer P. Tucker; mother, Nettie Peltier Tucker Watts; and three grandchildren, Savannah Grace York, Will Thomas York IV and Alexus Noel Stewart. He was preceded in death by his father, Alfred O. Tucker Sr.; stepfather, John Wesley Watts; grandparents, Spencer and Marie Ortet Tucker and Felix and Anna Legendre Peltier. He was born on May 15, 1930, in Ponchatoula, son of the late Hollis Earl and Clara Fischer Tucker, and husband for 54 years of the late Josie Holliday Tucker. He was a 1943 graduate of St Joseph Catholic School, graduated from Ponchatoula High School in 1947, attended Southeastern Louisiana College for 1 year, and attended Soule Business College. He was an Eagle Scout, and member of the National Eagle Scout Association. He was a U.S. Navy veteran, having served aboard the USS Boxer (CV21) from 1948 to 1949, and charter member of the Louisiana-Texas annual USS Boxer (CV21) reunion. He was a drummer for several years with the Ponchatoula Swingers, under Arabel W. Fendlason. He worked and managed the family Drug Store from 1949 through 1958 and was past treasurer of the Ponchatoula Kiwanis Club. He was a Ponchatoula City Councilman, and the youngest councilman in the State of Louisiana in 1956. Mr. Tucker was employed by the Tangipahoa Parish Assesor's Office, under J.D. Addison, and retired after twenty-nine years of service. Surviving are his four children, Althea Kae Bader, Tammy Gautier, Bub Tucker, and Millard Filmore Tucker; seven grandchildren, Ran Earl Berthelot, Bub Tucker II, Jenae T. Nickens, Chelsea T.
