CHARLES (RETIRED U.S. AIR FORCE) A veteran of Korea and Vietnam while serving in the U.S. Air Force and a resident of Hammond, he died Saturday, Jan. 23, 1999, at his home. He was 70 and a native of Independence. Visiting at Harry McKneely & Son Funeral Home, Hammond, 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. Monday and after 8 a.m. Tuesday. Religious services at the funeral home chapel at 11 a.m. Tuesday, conducted by the Rev. Mitch Williams. Entombment in Colonial Mausoleum, with full military honors at graveside. Survived by his wife, Evelyn Callender Uli, Hammond; four sons, Calvin Benton, Hammond, Dwight Benton, Independence, Michael Paul Benton, Springfield, and Roncalli S. Uli, Hammond; four sisters, Nina Guzzardo, Independence, Rosie Michelli, Hammond, Jennie Ruth, River Ridge, and Vita Michelli, California; five brothers, Marion Uli, Tickaw, Roy Michelli, Independence, Sam Michelli, Baton Rouge, and Frank and Pete Michelli, California; and five grandchildren. Preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Josephine Zimnardo Uli.
