Raymond M. Vargo, 87, passed away Saturday, Feb. 12, 2011, from complications of Alzheimer's. He retired from Ethyl Corp. with 35 years of service. Raymond was a veteran of World War II where he served in the U.S. Army Air Corps with the 391st Bombardment Group. He completed 22 missions as a radio-gunner aboard a B-26. Raymond was awarded the Air Medal with three oak leaf clusters and the Presidential Unit Citation. Raymond is survived by his wife of 64 years, Annie Belle DuBose Vargo; a daughter, Patricia Hollowell and husband Richard, of Baton Rouge; a son, Mike Vargo and wife Joy, of Glen Gardner, N.J.; four grandsons, Kevin Calbert and wife Dana, of Denham Springs, Scott Calbert and wife Danielle, of Prairieville, Brandon Vargo, of Carlisle, Penn., and Matthew Vargo, of Ellensburg, Wash.; four great-grandchildren, Kirk, Kate, Cole and Gavin; two sisters, Aline Seal and husband Fred, of Mandeville, and Hilda Stewart, of Hammond; one brother Louis and wife Bess, of Mandeville. Preceded in death by parents, Louis E. Vargo and Emma Paul Vargo; two sisters, Anna Bankston and Helen Whitaker; and daughter-in-law, Virginia K. Dunn Vargo. Visitation at Greenoaks Funeral Home, 9595 Florida Blvd., Monday, Feb. 14, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Visitation resumes at the funeral home on Tuesday, Feb. 15, from noon until services at 2 p.m. Burial will be in the Hungarian Cemetery in Albany. ************************************************************************* Obituary published in The Advocate (Baton Rouge): 6/12/2004 VARGO, STEVE JOHN A heavy equipment diesel mechanic and a resident of Watson, he died Friday, June 11, 2004, at Earl K. Long Medical Center. He was a native of Albany. Visitation at Hungarian Presbyterian Church, Albany, from 10 a.m. until service at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 12, 2004. He is survived by his wife, Ernestine Vargo, Watson; a stepson, Donnie Thompson, Baton Rouge; a brother, Charles Vargo, Holden; four sisters, Ethel Uli, Springfield, Mary Ann Blount, Holden, Betty Rose Fricano, Independence, and Julia Hussar, Albany; three grandchildren, three great-grand- children and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Steve and Mary Vargo; and two great-grandchildren, Donovan Hall andSavannah Hall. He was a member of Hungarian Presbyterian Church, Albany.
