Brent was born Tuesday, Feb. 6, 1962, in Hammond. Survived by wife of 23 years, Tara Yarborough Varisco; daughters, Brande Lea Varisco and Courtney Michelle Varisco, both of Ponchatoula; son, Cody Joseph Varisco, Ponchatoula; father, Vincent V. Varisco, and stepmother, Frances Varisco, Hammond; godparents, Pete and Tony Muscarello, Hammond; brother, Vincent V. Varisco III, Hammond; sisters, Kim Varisco Ortego, Ponchatoula, and Lisa Varisco Shelton, Texas; and mother-in-law, Jody Yarborough, of Hammond. Preceded in death by his mother, Ruby Lea Herbert; paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Vincent V. Varisco, Hammond; maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Murphy Hebert, Ponchatoula; and father-in-law, Roy A. Yarborough Sr., Hammond. Brent was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was a longtime employee of Pro Engine Sales, Kenner, and KBR Construction, LaPlace. Joseph Varisco, 90, died this morning at Hammond Nursing Home. He had been a member of the City of Hammond Cemetery Board for many years and did volunteer work at Rose Memorial, Green Lawn and Holly Gardens cemeteries for 28 years. Visitation will be at Harry McKneely & Son Funeral Home, Hammond, tonight from 6 until 9, with a vigil service at 7, and Saturday from 8 until 9:45 a.m. The funeral will be at Holy Ghost Catholic Church, Hammond, Saturday at 10 a.m. Burial will be in Rose Memorial Mausoleum. Born in Harvey, Varisco lived in Hammond for 88 years. He graduated from the Loyola University Vocational School. He was a longtime Hammond businessman, having established Varisco Motors in 1945. The dealership remained in operation until 1962, said grandchildren Diane Camelo and Joseph Fiduccia. His survivors include a daughter, Mary Ann Fiduccia, Hammond; his two grandchildren; a great-grandchild; and three sisters, Mamie Reiss, Miami, and Josephine Price, New Orleans, and Angelina Latuso, Gonzales. He was preceded in death by his wife, Inez Reynolds Varisco; four sisters, Christine Magro, Virginia Spitara, Rose Cognato, and Frances Greenburg; and abrother, Vincent V. Varisco Sr. He served as president of the Rose Memorial Cemetery Board for 28 years and was an honorary board member. He was a member and past grand knight of the Knights of Columbus Council 2952. DIED: March 13, 1969 Religious services for Vernon J. Varisco, 24, were held Saturday at 10 a.m. from Holy Ghost Catholic Church, with the Rev. E.W. Conley officiating. Burial was in Rose Memorial Cemetery, with Thomas Funeral Home in charge. Mr. Varisco was killed Thursday at 7:40 a.m. in a head-on collision on fog- shrouded U.S. 51 five miles south of Manchac. Varisco was driving his car south and as he attempted to pass a tractor-trailer, he pulled directly into the path of a pickup truck driven by Joseph Thompson of Norco, according to Trooper Tony Genusa of State Police Troop B. Thompson and the two passengers in the Varisco car, Robert F. Ball and Vincent Varisco, Jr., both of Hammond, were all taken to Ochsner Foundation Hospital in New Orleans. Varisco is survived by his wife, Mrs. Leah Ponthiaux Varisco; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. V. V. Varisco, Hammond; a son, Tony Varisco; a daughter, Tyra Lynn Varisco; a sister, Mrs. Pete (Toni) Muscarello, Hammond; a brother, Vincent Varisco Jr., Hammond; and two stepsisters.
