He was 72 and a resident and native of New Roads. Visiting at St. Augustine Catholic Church, New Roads, on Saturday, Nov. 19, from 9 a.m. until religious service at 11 a.m., conducted by the Rev. Conway Rodney. Interment in church cemetery. There will be a recitation of the rosary at 10 a.m. Survived by his wife, Albertha Varnall, of Baton Rouge; daughter, Arlene Franklin and husband Larry, Baton Rouge; six sons, Paul Varmall Jr., Gregory Varmall, Derrick Wells and wife Cosha, and Keith Varmall, all of Baton Rouge, Kerrick Wells and wife Angela, Hammond, and Lionell Butler and wife Jennifer, New Roads; a sister, Isabella Poland and husband Richard, Baker; two brothers, Herbert Varmall and wife Margaret, and Larry Varmall, of Baton Rouge; devoted friend, Willie Mae Morris; 19 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by his parents, Herman and Leona Varmall; brothers, Charles, Herman, John and Curtis Varmall; sister, Rose Trim; son, Patrick Varmall; and companion, Mary Wells. He attended Rosenwald High School and completed training in law enforcement at LSU.
