He was born on Sunday, April 30, 1922, in Greensboro, N.C. Mr. Vaughn was a member of Carpenters Local 1846, a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II and a past master Mason in the Independence chapter. Surviving are wife Mary Gulotta Vaughn; son and daughter-in-law, Bernie and Susan Vaughn; granddaughter, Denise Vaughn Jarreau; brothers, Jack, Garland Richard and Albert Vaughn; and sister, Mary Frances Cockman. He was preceded in death by his parents, Gideon Vaughn and Mary Hendrick Vaughn; and brother, Howard Vaughn. Sister Grace Victoria Zanders Vaughn was born Oct. 2, 1935, in Plaquemine and departed this Earth at 9:10 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 27, 2012, in Baton Rouge. Grace accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at Mount Airy Baptist Church (down the bayou) Plaquemine by the late Rev. Arthur Jenkins Sr. Grace was a part of the Iberville High School graduating Class of 1954. Grace received a bachelors of education degree from Southern University in 1958 and her masters from LSU in 1960. Grace was united in Holy Matrimony to Ret. Col. Edward Rufus Vaughn Sr. in April 1974. After blossoming as a teacher, business entrepreneur and restaurant owner in Washington, D.C., Virginia and South Carolina, Grace and Edward moved back to her home state of Louisiana where she served as a member and usher of the Usher Board No. 2 of the Mount Zion Baptist Church in Baton Rouge under the direction of Pastor Rene Brown. Grace leaves to cherish her memory and rejoice over victory her husband, Ret. Col. Edward R. Vaughn; devoted niece and goddaughter, Melissa Zanders Quinn (John), Independence; godson, Thurman Arnold (Lydia), Plaquemine; stepson, Neil Vaughn, Rock Hill, S.C.
