VERGONA, JOSEPH WILLIAM, SR.
A resident of Independence, died at 7:13 a.m. on Saturday, February 20,
2010 at North Oaks Medical Center in Hammond, LA. He was born October 5,
1925 in New Orleans, LA and was 84 years of age. He retired with 34 years
of service from the Naval Air Station, Belle Chasse, LA and served 10 years
in the U. S. Navy as a Veteran of both World War II and Korean Conflict. He
was a member of V.F.W. #3121, American Legion #64, Lapalco Lions Club and
Bridge City Golden Agers. Visitation will be at Mater Dolorosa Catholic
Church, Independence, from 11 a.m. until Memorial Mass at 12 Noon on
Saturday, March 13, 2010. Services conducted by Fr. Howard Adkins. He is
survived by his wife, Edna B. Vergona; daughter, Jo (Ann) Tullier and her
husband, Richard; 3 sons, Joseph Vergona, Jr. and his wife, Nancy, Chris
Vergona, Sr. and his wife, Cyndi and Ricky Vergona and his wife, Rhonda; a
brother, Anthony Vergona; 9 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren. He was
preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Saraphine Vergona; 3 sisters,
Grace Vergona, Dorothy Treuil and Ruth "Mary" Hardy; a brother, Thomas
Vergona; great-grandchildren, Ethan and Aaron Tullier. Mr. Joseph Vergona's
request was cremation and in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be
made to the Anthony Jude Vergona Scholarship Fund, Self Development
