A resident of Baton Rouge for 20 years, she was born on Dec. 25, 1914, and passed away at Baton Rouge General Medical Center at age 92. She was an expert in the area of cosmetology and established and operated numerous beauty schools in Detroit, Los Angeles and Baton Rouge. She also worked at Camelot Beauty College, Baton Rouge Beauty College and Cosey's Beauty College in Baton Rouge. She authored and co-authored several books, namely "Home Beauty Guide in Arranging Hair, Make-up and More" and "Southern Kitchen Cook Book." She leaves to cherish her memory four children, Geraldine Jackson, Larry Vernon, Odesa Ann Vernon and Marchine Jonie Hilson; 25 grandchildren, 52 great-grandchildren, seven great-great- grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Preceded in death by two sisters, Lilly Bolden Lewis and Ann Bolden; brother, Nathaniel Bolden; son, Gregory Vernon; and daughter, Eva Mae Yourghbour. Sister Vernon received her elementary and high school education in Tangipahoa Parish. She received a B.S. Degree in Elementary Education from Grambling State University, further studies were done at Southern University and Louisiana State University. Her career as an educator extended over a period of 25 years. Sister Vernon was a born again Christian and a member of Little Bethel Baptist Church in Amite, LA. She served as past President of the Senior Mission, Announcement Clerk for her church and the Third District Bogue Chitto Baptist Association for many years. Also, she served as the past coordinator for the District Queen competition. On the state level, she served as coordinator of the Senior Women's Department of the Louisiana Home & Foreign Mission Baptist Convention, and tresurer for the Senior Women's Department. She also represented the Louisiana State Association at the national level. Sister Alma Harrison Vernon was the wife of the late Rev. Dr. Willard Vernon. To this union one daughter was born. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents and several sisters and brothers. She leaves to celebrate her memory: one daughter - Glyniss (Adam) Vernon Gordon, two grandsons: Vernon (Marquell) and Christopher (Angela) Gordon, two great- grandsons: Vernon Gordon Jr. and Xavier Gordon. He had been taken to the hospital for an operation, a friend said, and he died of a heart attack in the operating room. Deaths - Daniel A. Vernon (Special to the Picayune) Amite City, La., Feb. 17 - Daniel A. Vernon, after a short, but severe illness, died at his late residence in West Railroad Avenue last night at 11:00 o'clock, aged 58 years. Mr. Vernon was for many years Clerk of the District Court of Tangipahoa Parish, besides holding many other public positions and offices of trust. He was a member of Amite City Lodge, F and A M; a charter member of Amite City Lodge No. 2,791, Knights of Honor; member of Camp No. 78, U. C. V., and an honorary member of Rescue Hook and Ladder Fire Company No. 2. The funeral services were held today at 12:00 o'clock, Rev. T.J. Upton, of the Methodist Church, officiating. The remains were followed to their last resting place in the Vernon family graveyard, four miles east of town, by a large concourse of relatives and friends.
