"PETE" Harry J. ³Pete² Vial, Sr., 89, beloved husband of Loretta Savoie Vial, passed away on Monday, August 2, 2010, at his residence. He was born on December 31, 1920, in Hahnville, Louisiana, to the late Richard J. Vial, Sr. and the late Josepha Hymel Vial. Pete served in World War II from November 1942 to March 1946 with the 379th Field Artillery Battalion. He was a Bronze Star recipient. After his service in World War II, he worked for 38 years as an inspector with the United States Department of Agriculture. He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Loretta Savoie Vial, a native of Des Allemands, La.; son, Harry Vial, Jr. and daughter-in-law Beth; son, David Vial and daughter-in-law Debbie; daughter, Fay Vial White and son-in-law Bob, all of Hammond, La.; son, Donald Vial and daughter-in-law Gwen, of Katy, Texas; brother, Irving Vial of La Place; sister, Josepha Delaune Vial of Jefferson; 13 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, Richard J. Vial Sr. and Josepha Hymel Vial; brothers Richard, Dennis, Leo, Clarence, Sidney; and sister Marie Vial Dufrene. Relatives and friends will be received on Wednesday, August 4, 2010, from 8:00 a.m. until the Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. at Holy Ghost Catholic Church, 601 North Oak St., Hammond, La., with Fr. Ed Everitt, O.P. officiating. Entombment will follow in the Rose Memorial Park Mausoleum in Hammond. In lieu in flowers, contributions may be made to the North Oaks Hospice, P.O. Metairie - Richard H. Vial, 67, a physician, died Saturday, Dec. 20, 2003, at his home. Born in New Orleans, he received a doctor of medicine degree from the Louisiana State University School of Medicine and completed a residency in internal medical and a follow-up in medical oncology. He was a faculty member of LSU Medical Center and director a student curriculum for internal medicine and director of the oncology fellowship program. He received an award for Outstanding Clinical Professor. He is survived by his wife, Kathleen V. Vial; three daughters, Stacey Patricia Vial, Stephanie Marie Vial and Emily K. Fitzpatrick; his mother, Melanie G. Vial; two brothers, Lester J. Vial Jr. and Wayne Vial. Visitation will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. until a Mass at 8 p.m. at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, Metairie.
