He was born on Tuesday, Oct. 5, 1926, in Hammond, La., son of the late Herbert Vinyard and the late Beulah Wittie Vinyard. Surviving are wife of 64 years, Shirley Bourgeois Vinyard, daughters, Beverly Vinyard Price, Yvonne Vinyard Ibert and husband George and Ginger Vinyard Hildebrand and husband Keith, son, Herbert ÒHerbieÓ Vinyard and wife Earline, 10 grandchildren, Bret, Amy, Cindy, Amos, Daniel, David, Kurt, Krista, Kara, and Kolin and 19 great- grandchildren. He is preceded in death by son-in-law, Tim Price and sister, Wanda Davis. Friends will be received Friday, Nov. 30, 2012 from 9 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. at Harry McKneely & Son Hammond. A native of Osgood, Ind., and a longtime resident of Ponchatoula, she had resided in Ellicott City, Md., since 1999. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harley M. Vinyard, formerly of Ponchatoula. She is survived by three brothers; two sons, Mark Vinyard, Clarksville, Md., and Bryan Vinyard, Bethesda, Md.; and four grandsons. A memorial service will be held at First United Methodist Church in Ponchatoula at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 22, followed by inurnment of ashes at Wetmore Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, gifts in her name are requested for the memorial fund at First United Methodist Church, 200 East Pine St., Ponchatoula, LA 70454. Visitation at Westside Baptist Church in Ponchatoula from 9 a.m. Saturday, April 16, until religious service at 11 a.m. Interment in Wetmore Cemetery. Survivors include his wife, Sarah Travis Vinyard, Ponchatoula; daughter, Faith Vinyard, Ponchatoula; and two sisters, Lessie Belle Cowan, Wesson, Miss., and Myrtle Newman, Gulfport, Miss. He was preceded in death by his son, Walter Joseph Vineyard Jr.; parents, Lester and Mary Addie Vinyard; three brothers, Oscar, E.J. and Clinton Vinyard; and sister, Edith Vinyard Harriss Liles. He was an educator for more than 35 years and upon his retirement served as a board member for Port Manchac for 17 years. He taught Sunday school for more than 30 years.
