Beloved wife of the late Ernst Thomas Voss, she was daughter of Horace Dodson Gray and Clarice Bruner Gray of Memphis TN. Surviving are 2 sons & daughters-in-law, Patrick William Voss and Wanda Voss of Metairie, LA, Matthew Ernst Voss and Vicki Voss of Albany, NY; daughter & son-in-law, Kathleen Voss Lowry and James W. Lowry of Nashville, TN; 2 sisters, Naomi Gray May of Little Rock, AK, and Martha Sue Gray Burgess and her husband Edward Burgess of Atlanta GA; 4 grandchildren, Meagen Kathleen Voss, Courtney Jeanne Voss, Kasey Ruth Lowry and Thomas James Lowry. Carolyn and her husband Ernie were long time residents of Hammond, LA. While there, they were active members of Grace Memorial Episcopal Church. Carolyn was an active gardener and seashell collector in her adult years. She was a member of the Louisiana Malacological Society and enjoyed traveling extensively with this group in search of rare seashells. While residing in Bahia, Brazil, during the 1980s she discovered a seashell that had never been catalogued before. With the assistance of Emily Volkes, this seashell was subsequently catalogued and named "Chicoreus (Seratus) Carolynae." Friends will be received Sunday, September 2, 2007, at Grace Memorial Episcopal Church from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. A church service will begin at 2:00p.m. followed by a graveside ceremony in Rose Memorial Cemetery. He was a native of Denmark, retired from Union Carbide having served as a chemical engineer and was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He was a former business columnist with The Daily Star and a volunteer of the local chapter of SCORE. He is survived by his wife, Carolyn Gray Voss of Hammond; two sons, Patrick Voss of New Orleans and Matthew Voss of New London, Pa.; one daughter, Kathleen V. Lowry of Florence, S.C.; one brother, Fritz Voss of Denmark; and four grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Wilhelm Holger and Kathleen Heffemen Von Voss. He had resided here for about 60 years. He was preceded in death by his wife, the former Mary Elizabeth May, and by one daughter, Katherine.
