Baton Rouge - Emma W. Wade, 96, died Thursday, Feb. 13, 2003, at Hammond Nursing Home. She was a native of Wilmer. She is survived by two sisters, Mamie W. Brooks of Roseland and Lessie Wilson of New Orleans; and two brothers, Roy Wilson Sr. of Wilmer and Roscoe Wilson Sr. of New Orleans. She was preceded in death her parents, her husband, Harrison Wade; three brothers, Sam, Robert and Lucious Wilson; and two sisters, Frances W. Simmons and Augustine Dixon. Visitation will be Wednesday at New Sunlight Baptist Church, Baton Rouge, from 11 a.m. until the Rev. Dale Flowers conducts the funeral at noon. Burial will be in Good Hope Cemetery, Wilmer. Funeral service will be held at Abbeville United Methodist Church in Abbeville on Saturday, Nov. 11, 2006, at 11 a.m. honoring the life of Gilbert H. Wade Jr., 78. He will be laid to rest at Graceland Cemetery, with the Rev. Steve Caraway officiating the service. The Rev. Gilbert H. Wade Jr., retired United Methodist minister, died Saturday, Nov. 4, after a long struggle with Parkinson's disease. The Rev. Wade was born and reared in New Orleans. He graduated from Fortier High School, then Southeastern Louisiana University in Hammond, where he met his future wife, Mamye Coburn. Upon their marriage, they lived in Ponchatoula and taught school in Tangipahoa Parish. After several years, Mr. Wade decided to enter the ministry and moved his family to Dallas, where he earned a master of divinity at Perkins School of Theology at SMU. Upon ordination, the Rev. Wade served in the Louisiana Conference in the towns of Olla, Waterproof, Alexandria, Colfax, Luling, Abbeville and Pecan Island, Zachary, Gonzales and Baton Rouge. He retired due to ill health to Abbeville to be near his family. During his ministry, he was instrumental in building several churches. The Rev. Wade enjoyed teaching scripture and church history. He was loved by his parishioners and well-respected by fellow ministers of all faiths. The Rev. Wade enjoyed family, friends and gardening and was noted for raising beautiful flowers. He had a passion for opera, classical music and films. He is survived by two sons, Gilbert H. Wade III and his wife Deborah of Fort Worth, Texas, and Bruce Wade and his wife Robin of Abbeville; two daughters, Elizabeth W. Edwards and her husband W.P. "Judge" III and Kathleen Wade, all of Abbeville; two sisters, Ethel Wade and Beverly Giusti, both of Kenner; and six grandchildren, William Edwards, Anna Edwards, Susan Edwards, Kate Edwards, Lauren Wade and Bryan Goodwin. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mamye Coburn Wade; parents, Gilbert H. Wade and the former Blanche McCrary; and brother, Carroll Wade. Larry's favorite moments were those of family gatherings where he relived with his children, grandchildren, family, and friends, extraordinary adventures of the 30 years of travels he shared with his wife, Vicki. Born Robert Larry Wade on Oct. 29, 1948, in Forest, Miss., he was a graduate of Baker High School, Baker, where he spent his youth before living in New Orleans, Tampa and finally settling in Ponchatoula. He is survived by his wife, Vicki Burkhardt; daughters, Chaliese Summers, Tonya Brownlow and Nicole Muller; sons, Dustin Wade, Jackson Wade, Anthony Baldini and Christopher Smith; grandchildren, Sawyer Wynn, Saylor Joy Wynn, Carmen Brownlow, Aidan Muller and Ethan Muller; sister, Betty Summers; and two nephews, Brian and DK Summers. Larry was preceded in death by his oldest daughter, Bonnie Joy Smith; and parents, R.J. and Lena Wade. He will be deeply missed by many friends and family for the inspiration that he shared for living life to the fullest.
