"NOOKIE" Dowling E. "Nookie" Wales, a resident of Greensburg, died at 6:05 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 8, 2006, at Lane Regional Medical Center, Zachary. He was a native of Greenlaw. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend to all who knew him. He was a charter member of the Kentwood Co-op and a lifelong farmer. He was a member of Center United Methodist Church. He served in the U.S. Navy from June 1946 through April 1952. He served aboard three ships while in the Navy, the last being the USS Kaskaskia, which he grew to love. LOIS ELAINE TYLER Born Oct. 17, 1914, in Pineville, she died at 5 a.m. Friday, Oct. 1, 1999, at Riverside Medical Center, Franklinton. Arrangements are pending at Crain Funeral Home, Franklinton. She was a 1932 graduate of Amite High School in Amite and earned a bachelor's degree in 1935 from Southeastern Louisiana College, Hammond. She completed work on her Ph.D. at LSU in 1957. A resident of Franklinton, she taught in public schools in Washington and East Baton Rouge parishes for 25 years, in the LSU system for 10 years, retiring from LSU in Eunice as head of the Math department and professor emeritus in June of 1977. Following her retirement she taught another 11 years in private schools in Tangipahoa and Washington parishes. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Franklinton where she had been a Sunday school teacher and church pianist for 45 years. Milton A. Wales, 86, of Elyria and Lakeside, Ohio, died at the Elyria United Methodist Village on Monday, Nov. 21, 2005, of Alzheimer's disease. Mr. Wales was born in Kentwood on Sept. 15, 1919. He was a graduate of Central High School, LSU and Pennsylvania State University with a master's degree in engineering. He retired from the University of Akron Community and Technical College where he taught for 10 years. Prior to that, he retired from the Ohio National Guard with the rank of lieutenant colonel. Col. Wales served as the chief aircraft maintenance officer with the 164th Tactical Fighter Squadron in Mansfield, Ohio, from its beginning in 1948 until 1966. During World War II, he served in the Army Air Corps in India. He was activated by the U.S. Air Force in 1961 during the Berlin crisis and served for one year in Etain, France. He is survived by his wife, Benita Curran, whom he married on Sept. 27, 1942. He is also survived by two daughters, a son, two grandsons and four great-grandsons. Also surviving are his sisters, Elsie Mae Wales O'Neal of Baton Rouge and Florence Wales McKay of Pollock. He was preceded in death by his parents, Milton Ellis Wales and Lillian McDaniel Wales, who were of Baton Rouge; and a sister, Sybil Wales Lockhart, who was of Baton Rouge.
