Mr. Wasson was born at Westpoint, Miss., May 23, 1917. He is the son of Dr. L.P. Wasson, a Methodist minister, and Georgia Ella Wilbourn Wasson. He was 88 years old, a graduate of Millsaps College and attended Emory University for his post-graduate work. He was a teacher and commander of Jefferson Military Academy in Natchez, Miss., from 1941-1948, with time out to serve in the U.S. Army during World War II. He moved to Hammond in 1953, and worked for Billups Petroleum Co., eventually becoming president of the company and president of Charter Marketing Co. He retired in 1982. He was preceded in death by his wife, Annie Louise Heidelberg; his second wife, Virginia Alessi; his parents, Dr. L.P. Wasson and Georgia Ella Wilbourn Wasson; brother, Lovick Newton Wasson; and sisters, Mary Elizabeth Wasson Rhudy (Mrs. Charles B.), Virginia Wasson Furr (Mrs. Carl C.) and Lucy Ann Wasson Thompson (Mrs. William C.) He is survived by his daughter, Katherine W. Blair (Mrs. William B.), Hammond; son, Colonel James N. Wasson, Hammond, currently serving with the U.S. Army in Washington, D.C.; sisters, Ruby Wasson McBryde (Mrs. Hugh R.), Columbus, Miss., Julia Wasson Strong (Mrs. Herbert L.), Milan, Ohio, Fannye Ruth Wasson, Monroe, and Sarah Jane Wasson Edwards (Mrs. Paul E.), Brandon, Miss.; five grandchildren, Cullen Copeland Sellers, Hammond, Katherine Sellers Rogelstad, Humble, Texas, David Wilbourn Wasson, James Beauregard Wasson and Anne Elisabeth Wasson, all natives of Hammond, currently residing in Virginia; and four great- grandchildren, Lawson Durham Nettles and Karli Katherine Rogelstad, both of Humble, Texas, Cullen Copeland Sellers and Caroline Grace Sellers, both of Hammond. There will be a funeral service at the First Methodist Church in Hammond on Saturday, July 2, at 2 p.m. with graveside service following in Greenlawn Cemetery in Hammond.
