Ruth L. Waters, 90, married for 69 years to the late T.H. "Muddy" Waters, died Wednesday, June 15, 2005. Born in Homer in 1915, she was the daughter of James and Minnie Lupo. She and "Muddy" lived in Hammond, where they worked for the Louisiana High School Athletic Association. They moved to Athens, Ga., in 1995. She is survived by her children, Jim Waters of Athens, Thad Waters of St. Joseph, Carl Waters of Lawrenceville, Ga., Roy Waters of Ruston and Jeanie Bunce of Norwalk, Conn. She had 11 grand- children and four great-grandchildren. A memorial service was held Saturday, June 18, at 3 p.m. in the chapel at Lord and Stephens Funeral Home East, Athens. *************************************************************************** Obituary published in The Advocate (Baton Rouge): 11/20/2004 WATERS, THAD HOWARD "MUDDY" Thad Howard "Muddy" Waters, 92, died Wednesday, Nov. 17, 2004, at his home in Athens, Ga. He was born June 1, 1912, in Hamburg, Ark., a son of the late Jackson Dee and Dorothy Waters. His is survived by his wife of 69? years, Ruth Lupo Waters; four sons and a daughter and their spouses, James and Sidney Anne, Athens, Thad Jr. and Gail, St. Joseph, Carl, Lawrenceville, Ga., Roy and wife Marlen, Ruston, and Jeannie and John Bunce, Norwalk, Conn.; 11 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Muddy grew up in Tioga and attended Louisiana Tech University and LSU. He and his wife were longtime residents of Hammond, where he was a teacher of agriculture at Hammond High School and later the school's principal. In 1953, he was selected as the first commissioner of the newly formed Louisiana High School Athletic Association where he remained until his retirement in 1971. Muddy was also in charge of the Louisiana High School Coaches Association, the Louisiana High School Officials Association and served on the NCAA baseball rules committee. He was inducted into the Louisiana Tech Athletic Hall of Fame and the Louisiana High School Coaches Hall of Fame. One of Muddy's most notable accomplishments was leading the nation in changing women's basketball from 6 to 5 players. A memorial service will be held at Grace Episcopal Church, Hammond, at 3 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 4. Family visitation in the parish hall adjoining the church from 2 p.m. until service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Muddy Waters Scholarship Fund in care of the Louisiana Tech Foundation, P.O.
