There was a graveside service at the Jewish Burial Rites Cemetery in New Orleans, conducted by Rabbi Paul Caplan. She is survived by her husband, Morris Watsky; two daughters, Leatrice W. Adams, Baton Rouge, an (sic) Lazelle W. Alexander, New Orleans; a son, Sheldon Watsky, Houston; a sister, Rachel Watsky, Hammond; six grandchildren; three stepgran- children (sic) and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two brothers, David and Louis Gumelsky. ******************************************************************************** Obituary published in The Advocate (Baton Rouge): 3/28/2005 WATSKY, RACHEL GUMELSKY Rachel Gumelsky Watsky, age 95, died at Willow Wood Nursing Home in New Orleans on Friday, March 25, 2005, at 1 a.m. A native of Independence and a resident of New Orleans for many years, she was the owner and operator with her late husband, Alex Watsky, of Dixie Candy & Novelty Co. Inc., a wholesale distributorship in Hammond. She was the daughter of the late Lazard and Ione Cotlar Gumelsky, sister of the late Max L. Gumelsky, David Gumelsky and Ethel Gumelsky Watsky, mother of Mathile W. Abramson, Gonzales, and Janice Watsky, Kenner, and mother-in-law of Dr. Steven N. Abramson. She also is survived by five grandchildren and three grand- children-in-law, David and Kelly Abramson, Neil and Kimberly Abramson and Beth Abramson, all of New Orleans, Karen and Ralph Tate, St. Rose, and Stephanie Abramson, New York; and three great-grandsons, Alex, Eli and Parrish Abramson. She was a devoted daughter, wife, mother and grandparent. Graveside service was held on Friday, March 25, at 3:30 p.m. at Hebrew Rest Cemetery No. 3 with Rabbi Barry Weinstein, Temple B'nai Israel of Baton Rouge officiating.
