Fred C. Weist Beloved Public Official Dies - Funeral services for Fred C. Weist, Tangipahoa parish's oldest parish official, both in years and in length of service, were held at McKneely Funeral Home here Friday afternoon at 3 o'clock, by the Rev. Sam R. Gordon, Baptist minister. The impressive rites at the grave were conducted by the Masonic Lodge. In spite of the downpour of rain during the afternoon and the general inclemency of the weather all during the day, a large gathering of friends from throughout this section came to pay their respects to this beloved official who had served the public so conscientiously for so many years. Quantities of beautiful flowers marked his last resting place at the Amite cemetery where interment was made. A native of Tangipahoa parish, Mr. Weist was born near Amite on May 8, 1858. He was for many years engaged in the mercantile business here and in 1911 was named parish treasurer and secretary of the of the Parish Police Jury. He held this position until the time of his death, although during the past several months some of his duties had been turned over to others. Unusually active, his death came very unexpectedly after an illness of only a few days. He died at Touro Infirmary in New Orleans at 5:30 a.m. Thursday March 14. He is survived by his wife, who lives in Amite, and by one son Jules Weist, and two granddaughters Emily and Charlotte, who live in New Orleans. Note: Frederick Conrad Weist (Fred C. Weist) was born in New Orleans and not near Amite as stated in the obituary. ********************************************************************************
