She was 86 and a native of Independence. Visiting at Geisler Funeral Home, Hammond, 1 p.m. Friday until religious services at 3 p.m., conducted by the Rev. Ronnie Wascom. Survived by husband, Henry Wendelken; two daughters, Linda W. Sample, Tampa, Fla., and Janice Tyler, Crestview, Fla.; three sisters, Jackie Doughty, Baton Rouge, Faye Bridges, Zachary, and Mildred Day, Baton Rouge; and four brothers, Baynard and Kenneth Nelson, both of Baton Rouge, Milton Nelson, Houston, and Charles Nelson, Slaughter. Preceded in death by parents, two sisters and two brothers. She was a member of Order of the Eastern Star, Daughters of the American Revolution and Hammond Garden Club of Hammond. She was one of the founding members of Immanuel Baptist Church. She led a full and challenging life and will be most remembered for her tireless effort in helping others. He was 87 and a native of Hammond. He was a graduate of Hammond High School and attended Southeastern Louisiana University. He was a charter member of Immanuel Baptist Church in Hammond and a past master of Livingston Masonic Lodge No. 160, F&AM. He was a successful businessman and started Wendelken Machine Shop and Tangi Industrial Sales in Hammond. He will be remembered for his wit, humility and enjoyment of life. He had the ability to provide guidance when requested and assistance when needed. He was truly an admirable person and will be missed by his loving family and friends. He is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Linda and Gray Sample, Tampa, Fla., and Janice and Rick Tyler, Crestview, Fla.; stepchildren, John Kelly and Kimberly Tyler; two sisters, Ruth Phelps and Marion Corkern, both of Baton Rouge; nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his wife, Eva Mae Nelson Wendelken; and parents, George and Ruth Wendelken. Visitation at Geisler Funeral Home, Hammond, from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Friday, with Masonic services at 7 p.m. Visitation at the funeral home chapel from 11:30 a.m. until funeral services at 1 p.m. Saturday.
