Beloved husband and father, Lee Bangs Wheeler Sr., 82, went to be with his Lord on Thursday, Aug. 17, 2006, at North Oaks Medical Center in Hammond following a brief illness. He was born on Dec. 11, 1923, in New Orleans, and lived in Kentwood the rest of his life. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II after graduating from Kentwood High School in 1940. He received a bachelor of science degree in mathematics from Southeastern Louisiana University in 1948 and later received a master's degree from the University of Southern Mississippi. He was the mayor of Kentwood from 1954 to 1958. He was also a member of the Tangipahoa Parish School Board from 1966 to 1972. He was a treasured faculty member at Southeastern Louisiana University for 32 years in the school's math department. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Kentwood and a volunteer in the Kentwood Fire Department for more than 25 years. He was also a charter member of the Kentwood Lions Club. He was preceded in death by his father, Frank Benjamin Wheeler; his mother, Mittie Hilbun Wheeler; sisters, Mabel Wheeler Watson and Mildred Sue Wheeler; brother, Dr. Frank Wheeler; and first wife, Sally Ann Schaack. Survivors include his wife, Rosalie L. Wheeler, Kentwood; son, Lee "Tee" Wheeler Jr. of Independence; daughters, Donna W. Bohnet of Clearwater, Fla., and Kimberlee "Kim" W. Whittington of Hazlehurst, Miss.; three grandchildren, Jayme Leeann Whittington, Gannon Clark Whittington and Karlee Elizabeth Wheeler; two nephews, Hilary Watson and Brian Wheeler; and four stepgrandchildren.
