A native of Hammond and graduate of Southeastern Louisiana University, Louisiana State University and LSU Law School, he had practiced law in Minden since 1972. At the time of his death, he was serving with the Bossier-Webster Indigent Defender Board as well as maintaining a private law practice in Minden. He was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church. He enlisted in the Navy on 29 September 1992. After completing recruit training in Great Lakes, Illinois, he reported to Hospital Corps School "A" in March 1993. He then received orders to his first duty station, Portsmouth Naval Medical Center, Portsmouth, Virginia. In October 1994, Petty Officer White received orders to the USS Gettysburg (CG64) home ported in Mayport Florida. It was there he served as a general duty Corpsman. He advanced to Petty Officer Third C;ass and subsequently earned his qualification as an Enlisted Surface Warrior Specialist. In February 1998 he transferred to Naval Hospital Jacksonville, FL and worked as a General Duty Corpsman. In September 2002 he was transferred to Naval Hospital Keflavik Iceland. Petty Officer White attended Field Medieval Service School, FMSS, Camp Lejeune, North Carolina in March 2004. After graduating from FMSS he reported to 2D Combat Logistics Battalion, 2D Force Service Support Group (FSSG), II Marine Force Enlisted Warfare Specialist. He was then transferred to 2D Medical Battalion, 2D FSSG and deployed to Camp Taqaddum, Iraq, in support of OIF 04-06-.2. Petty Officer White was assigned to combat Logistics Regiment 37, 3D Marine Logistics Group, Okinawa Japan, as the Fleet Marine Force Enlisted Warfare Specialist Program Coordinator. LYNCHBURG, Va. - Zebulon Waters White, 85, of Lynchburg, Va., died Monday, July 16, 2001, at the Hospice in the Hills after a long battle with prostate cancer. He was the husband of Marjorie Belcher White. Born in Baltimore, on Oct. 3, 1915, he was the son of the late Madeline Shepard White and William Zebulon White. He spent his childhood in New London, Conn, where he attended the Buckley School. He earned a bachelor's degree from Dartmouth College, where he was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon and the Dartmouth Outing Club. His master's degree was from the Yale University School of Forestry. Before moving to Lynchburg in 1999, he resided in Hammond, where he was a self-employed forestry consultant from 1972 until his retirement in 1990. From 1958 to 1972, he taught at Yale's School of Forestry. He was named Clifton R. Musser Professor of Industrial Forestry in 1961 and associate dean and director of professional studies in 1965. In addition to his classroom and administrative duties, he organized and led many student trips and special seminars. He was a forestry consultant for Pomeroy & McGowin in Monticello, Ark. from 1941 to 1958. During his career he was active in many civic and charitable organizations. An Eagle Scout as a youth, he served as Scoutmaster in Monticello, Ark and in Woodbridge, Conn. He chaired the school board in Monticello in the 1950s. He was a member of Rotary International in New Haven, Conn., and in Hammond. He was a Literacy Volunteer in Southeastern Louisiana and was a management volunteer as well as a tutor. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Hammond. He served as secretary of the Yale Forest School Alumni Association and was a member and past president of the Dartmouth Alumni Club of New Haven and in Louisiana, and a past member of Dartmouth's national Alumni Council. He was a distinguished member of the Society of American Foresters. Survivors include a brother, George C. White of Essex, Conn., and two sisters, Sara Lou Olsen of Seattle and Carol McOrmond of Tinton Falls, N.J. He was the brother of the late Anne Burke. Besides his wife of 62 years, his family included a daughter, Susan Hogan of Teaneck, N.J., three sons, Jonathan Z. White of Lynchburg, Va., William T. White of Newport, Rhode Island, and Ted S. White of Fuquay-Varina, N.C., and 11 grandchildren. Burial will be private.
