Born in Itta Bena, Miss., he graduated from Greenwood High School and entered the Navy in 1946. In 1954, he received a bachelor's degree in accounting from Southeastern Louisiana College. He was a longtime resident of Hammond and served as the Tangipahoa Parish director of finance for 20 years. Prior to working for the parish, he worked for Billups Petroleum Co. for 30 years. He was also a charter members of the Hammond Golf Club and a longtime member of Oak Knoll Country Club. He was a member of the Louisiana Government Finance Officers Association. Among his civic affiliations he held memberships in the Hammond Jaycees and the Livingston Lodge 160. Survivors include two sons, Preston "Kim" Wier Jr. of Robert and Wayne Wier of Olathe, Kansas; one daughter, Amy L. O'Brien of Burlington, Iowa; one brother, Leon W. Wier of Las Vegas; and seven grand- children. His wife, Anne Garner Wier; and his parents, Leon and Louise Wier, preceded him in death. At Mr. Wier's request there will be no visitation. He donated his body to Tulane Medical School.
