PFC Matthew E. Wildes, 18, passed away on Thursday, August 27, 2009, from combat injuries while serving the United States Army in Afghanistan. Matthew was born December 8, 1990. He attended Hammond High School, joined the Army and completed Basic Training at Fort Benning, GA in 2008. He served with the 1st Battalion, 12th Infantry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division, Fort Carson, Colorado. He is preceded in death by his grandparents, Charles Ray Wildes and Walter and Mary Perry. He is survived by his loving parents Mary and Clint Wildes; paternal grandmother, Faye M. Wildes; brother, Clint Wildes and wife Melissa Autin; sister, Jamie Ackan; nephew, Lawrence Wildes; niece Zeynip Ackan; numerous aunts and uncles, cousins; and special friends. Matthew's life dream was to be a Soldier and to defend his country. PFC Wildes died heroically, carrying out his final mission for which he volunteered. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him, and he will always be remembered in all of our hearts. The family will receive friends at Harry McKneely & Son Funeral Home, 2000 N Morrison Blvd, Hammond, LA, Thursday, September 3, 2009, from 9:00 a.m. until the service celebrating Matthew's life begins at 1:00 p.m. in the funeral home chapel. Following the service at the funeral home, full military honors will be performed by the United States Army at the Westchurch Church of Christ, 1202 W. Church St, Hammond, LA.
