She was preceded in death by her father, James "Jim" Marion Breeden, mother, Agnes Brumfield Breeden, and husband, O.J. "Jay" Williams. Hope was a Kentwood High School drum majorette, attended Louisiana Tech, and received a BA from Southeastern Louisiana College, where she was a member of Kappa Rho sorority, Vice President of the PanHellenic Council, a Strawberry Court maid, and where she met her future husband O.J. She obtained a Certificate of Social Welfare from LSU, gained the highest score possible on the Louisiana Civil Service Test, and served as a children's caseworker for East Baton Rouge Parish for over 20 years, until her retirement. Hope helped to found the Baton Rouge Foster Parents' Association and was a recipient of the Distinguished Service Award from that organization. She was a devoted mother and worked tirelessly as a volunteer in every school her daughters, Ginger and Fran, attended. Hope was a room mother, a Bluebirds and Campfire Girls leader, a member of the Delta Gamma Fraternity Mothers' Club, and a mentor for countless young men and women. Her home was always open to family and friends, new and old. A lifelong Methodist and 50+ year member of First United Methodist Church in Baton Rouge, Hope was a member of the United Methodist Women, receiving the UMW Service Award, and also served as Director of Vacation Church School for several years. She was a 50+ year member of the John James Audubon Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. Hope, along with her husband, was a longtime member of the Baton Rouge Audubon Society, where she hosted monthly mailing parties for "The Barred Owl", the Society's newsletter, and served as Assistant Publisher and Chief Soup Maker for the group. She was a longtime volunteer in the Magnolia Woods Elementary School Library. She served several years as a board member of Friends of Louisiana Public Broadcasting and was a member of the first Louisiana Legends Awards Gala Committee. Hope is survived by her daughters, Virginia "Ginger" Marks and Frances "Fran" Shurtz, and their husbands, Marion Marks and Steve Shurtz, and her two grandsons, James "Jay" Marks and Andrew Shurtz and a granddaughter-in-law, Lori Shurtz.
