N A James Funeral Home, Hammond, in charge of arrangements. ******************************************************************************** Obituary published in The Hammond Daily Star: 1/11/2009 WILLIS, SCOTT BENJAMIN Scott Benjamin Willis, age 42, passed away unexpectedly in Laurel on January 7, 2009. He was born July 1, 1966 in Summit, New Jersey. Scott spent his early years in Key West, Florida and later moved with his parents to New Orleans in 1979. He attended Benjamin Franklin High School in New Orleans and graduated from Louisiana State University with a degree in broadcast journalism in 1988. Scott moved to Laurel, Mississippi in 1988 after marrying his high school sweetheart Anna Wells Willis on December 30. He took his first job as a reporter for the Laurel Leader-Call and soon began his career in television as a news anchor at WHLT-TV in Hattiesburg. He spent eleven years as an independent agent for New York Life Insurance Company and in 2008 went to work for Sanderson Farms as a training manager. He was a member of First United Methodist Church and The Sertoma Club of Laurel where he served terms as President and Christmas parade chairman. He was a Laurel recreational soccer referee and dedicated years of service as a volunteer t-ball, football, baseball, and soccer coach for youth. For many years, Scott delivered meals as a Christian Food Mission volunteer. Scott is survived by wife of twenty years, Anna Wells Willis, son Benjamin Wells Willis, daughter Abigail Sands Willis, parents Sandy and Jack Willis of Ponchatoula, Louisiana. He is also survived by a brother, Mark Luther Willis and wife Grace of Key West, Florida, sister Lisa Willis of Kansas City, Kansas, and sister Michelle Wilson and husband Steve of Overland Park, Kansas as well as six nieces and five nephews. A memorial service will be held at First United Methodist Church of Laurel on Saturday, January 10 at 1:00 p.m., immediately followed by a visitation in the fellowship hall of the church. Honorary pall bearers include: Jack Willis, Mark Willis, ReneÕ Lovelace, Tim Taylor, Craig Powell, Stacy Webb, Neal Holifield, Darron Dodd, Victor Jones, Malcolm Carmichael, Ty Parker, Kline Estess, David Myrick, and Members of the Laurel Sertoma Club.
