WALTER COUVILLION, JR. "WALT" A United Methodist minister, he died Friday, June 10, 2005, at the age of 78. Walter received his bachelor of arts degree from Louisiana College in Pineville in 1958, and a master of divinity from the New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary in 1961. He was ordained as a United Methodist minister and served as pastor of churches in Pearl River, Natchitoches and Tangipahoa. He was a Louisiana state licensed professional counselor and board certified clinical chaplain. He served as Protestant chaplain for the East Louisiana State Hospital in Jackson for 24 years prior to retiring. After retirement, Walter continued an active ministry with Alcoholics Anonymous until his death. He served his country as a U.S. Army major during the Korean War. Memorial service at Jefferson United Methodist Church on Monday, June 13, at 6 p.m., conducted by the Rev. Doug Baker, assisted by Pastor Steve Berger and Monsignor Robert Bergreen. Service will be followed by a reception at the church. He is survived by his wife, Pat Worthy of Baton Rouge; two daughters and sons-in-law, Karin and Dr. Richard Smith of Warrensburg, Mo., and Julia and Wally Cummings of Covington; a son and daughter-in-law, Mark and D'Ette Worthy of Prairieville; sister, Betty Zeagler of Winnsfield; granddaughters, Dr. Stephanie Marx and husband Dr. James Marx of Gladstone, Mo., Kristin Meyer and husband, Mark, of St. Joseph, Mo., Adrienne Smith of Kansas City, Mo., and Stephanie Cummings of Covington; grandsons, Chet and Landon Worthy of Dutchtown, and Dorian Cummings of New Orleans; and great-grandchildren, Alex, Jennifer and Luke Marx of Gladstone, and Johnny and Bryce Taylor of Covington. He was preceded in death by his brother, Dr. Sydney Worthy; and parents, Walter Worthy Sr. and Gertrude Worthy.
