He was 86 years young, born Jan. 16, 1922, in Shongaloo. He grew up in Haynesville, where he played football for the Haynesville Tornadoes, and attended Louisiana Tech University for 3” years. After serving his country for four years in the U.S. Army in World War II, he completed his education at LSU School of Law in 1949. He began his career in private practice and later worked as an attorney for the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development, where he retired as assistant general counsel of the legal department in 1984. He was a former president of the Exchange Club and longtime member of the American Legion. He was a founding member and continued to serve on the board of The Mary Williamson Robertson Marx Scholarship Fund which grants educational scholarships to direct descendants of U.S. veterans of World Wars I and II. He was an avid golfer and an active member of the Fairwood Country Club for 50 years; his favorite pastime other than golfing was watching LSU Tiger football. He was a wonderful and loving husband, father, grandfather and friend, and he will be greatly missed. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Ruth McDaniel Wroten; three daughters, Ann Wroten Duffel, Nancy Wroten Kelly and husband Eddie, and Carol Wroten Dupuy and husband Roy Jr.; five grandchildren, Leigh Duffel Brooks, Val Duffel IV, Allyson Dedon and Justin and Claire Dupuy; three great-grandchildren, Ian, Rhys and Kerian Brooks; sister, Lorene White Price, of Baton Rouge; brother, Emmett C. Wroten and his wife, Gloria, of New Orleans; sisters-in-law, Mary F. Wroten, of Beeville, Texas, and Shirley H. McDaniel, of Hammond; two special nieces and nephew, Terry M. Varnado, Rebecca M. McDaniel and Ralph L. McDaniel; as well as other nieces and nephews whom he could not see as often, but loved dearly. Preceded in death by his parents, Ada Watters and George Marshall Wroten; and three siblings, Aline Goodwin, Joseph Garnold Wroten and Thomas Watters Wroten. Pallbearers will be Eddie Kelly, Roy Jr. and Justin Dupuy, Ralph McDaniel, Gary Ethridge and Val Duffel IV. Honorary pallbearers are George Winders, Donald Farrelly, Fred LeBlanc and Charlie Weigel. Visitation at Rabenhorst Funeral Home East, 11000 Florida Blvd., on Thursday, June 12, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Visitation resumes at the funeral home on Friday from 9 a.m. until religious service at 10 a.m. Interment in Azalea Rest Cemetery, Zachary.
