She was a Golden Girl for the National Champion Louisiana State University Tigers football team, a member of Texas State Teachers Association, Alvin Teachers Association, Delta Kappa Gamma and the Aglaian Study Club. She was a pianist and a member of the First United Methodist Church of Independence, and a former member of the First United Methodist Church in Alvin. She was a teacher at Alvin Elementary, Mark Twain Primary and Walt Disney Elementary. Survivors include her son, Daniel York of Roseland; two daughters, Kay York of Houston and Glenda Bolerjack of Alvin; three grandchildren and two great- grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Marion Hendry and James Glenn York; and her parents, Pete and Yolande Lawrence Norwood. Visitation will be Friday at Harry McKneely & Son Funeral Home, Amite, from 9 a.m. until the funeral at noon followed by a graveside service at Amite Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Carolyn York Memorial Scholarship, care of Alvin ISD Education Foundation, P.O. Box 2342, Alvin, TX 77512.
