He was born Sept. 3, 1943, in Roseland, Louisiana. He was the second son of the late Mrs. Lelia Varnado Zanders and Mr. Larry Zanders, Sr. The Home-going Celebration Service will be held at Rose Hill Missionary Baptist Church, 6132 Highway 48 East, Magnolia, Mississippi, at 12 p.m. on Friday, July 2. The burial will be in the church cemetery. Richardson Funeral Home, located in Amite, Louisiana, is in charge of the funeral arrangements. He graduated from West Side High School in Amite, Louisiana. He earned a B.S. in Biology from Southern University and a M.S. in Science Education and J.D. in Law from Syracuse University. He held career positions in human resource management and diversity relations. In his early years, he was a member of Butler Chapel A.M.E. Zion Church in Amite, Louisiana. Most recently he joined Rose Hill Missionary Baptist Church, pastored by Rev. Dr. Carl Hughes. Dr. Zanders was preceded in death by both of his parents and brother, Norman Zanders. He is survived by two daughters: Geleah Zanders Wolf (Gene) and Anissa Zanders King (Rick); two granddaughters, Alyssa and Lelia; a step grandson, Ricky; three sisters, Fochia Zanders Brown (Calvin), Dr. Barbara Zanders Dawson (Archie) and Lelia Zanders Strozier; brothers, Larry Zanders, Jr., Attorney Willie Matthew Zanders, Sr. (Ann) and Timothy Titus Zanders (Doris); two nieces and ten nephews and many other relatives and friends. Visitation will be today from 4 to 8 p.m. at N.A. James Funeral Home, Hammond. The Rev. Carl Coleman will conduct the funeral service Saturday at 11 a.m. at First True Love World Outreach Ministries in Ponchatoula. Burial will follow at Holly Gardens Cemetery, Hammond. Survivors include one son, Rushell Zanders Jr.; five sisters, Lennie Hodges, Irma Boyle, Sarah Sneed, Thelma Gunn and Beverly Brown.; three brothers, Emanuel Zanders Jr., Alfred Zanders and Adolph Zanders; and two grandchildren.
