The following is an affidavit obtained from the National Archives in Washington D.C. which 
attests to an obituary which contains the dates of death and birth of Joseph Kopfler Sr.

State of Louisiana
Parish of Tangipahoa
Town of Amite City

	Before me T.E. Warner Clerk of the 16th Judicial District Court of Louisiana duly 
commissioned & qualified as such in & for Tangipahoa Parish aforesaid personally came & 
appeared   R.W. Read, well known to me, of lawful age and a resident of this Parish who being 
duly sworn according to Law deposes & says

	My name is Richmond W. Read, that I am of lawful age reside in the Parish of Tangipahoa 
State of Louisiana & that my Post Office is Amite City La   that I am the Editor & Proprietor 
of the "Amite City Independent," News Paper published & issued at Amite City Louisiana   That 
by reference to the copy of the Paper issued on the 7th of December 1889 I find a notice of 
the Death of Joseph Kopfler in the following words "Died" "At his residence in Amite City on 
Thursday Decbr 5th 1889 at 1:20 A.M. Joseph Kopfler Senr. A native of Germany, born April 
22nd 1835 aged 54 years & 7 months."

	 I had known Mr. Jos. Kopfler for a long series of years & know that the above is a proper & 
correct statement of the date of his death.
