Miller, Tensas Parish, Louisiana Submitted to the USGENWEB Archives Project by Mike Miller, DEC 1997. Harrison C. Miller Tensas Parish, Louisiana Harrison C. Miller, Highland, La., is an influential planter and merchant of Tensas parish, and uniting the desirable qualities of intellectual force and business ability, has achieved unusual success. He is the son of G. W. Miller and was born in Natchez, Miss., in 1840. The father was a native of the blue grass regions of Kentucky, born in 1810, and in 1836 he was married to Miss Malinda E. Smith. At an early date he moved to Natchez, Miss., and in partnership with his elder brothers engaged in merchandising. In 1840 he entered and bought land in Concordia parish. He received his final summons in 1876 and his wife survived him until 1887. He was a son of John Miller. Harrison C. Miller received his literary education in Geneva, Switzerland, and his medical education at Tours, France. While in the last named city the Civil war broke out in the United States, and having the Southern cause at heart he left his studies and returned to his native land, never to return to complete his education. He enlisted in the Adams' cavalry of Mississippi and his division was known as Jefferson Davis' legions. He was in service during the entire war and was paroled at Greensboro, N. C., in 1865. He was in what was known as the Virginia campaign. After the war Mr. Miller engaged in merchandising in Natchez, but remained there only one year. Since that time he has turned his entire attention to planting and merchandising and has made a complete success of both enterprises. He located in Tensas parish in 1869, and there he has made his home ever since. He was married in 1884 to Miss Florence May, daughter of James and Eliza May, and one son, Harrison C. Jr., has been born to bless this happy union. Mr. Miller is pleasant and social in his intercourse with all, is a fine conversationalist, and comes of a prominent family.
