Public Officials of Tensas Parish after the end of the Civil War were moved to and confined to a Military Prison in Alton, Ill. The Consolidated Morning Report of August 1, 1883 listed the following: Castleman, Richard M. Snyder, Robert H. Snyder, Alonzo Aronie, Julius Williams, George W. Farrar, Thos. P. Murdock, Robert Brown, Aatlas Williams, J.C. Noted in the oath books, during the years of 1877-1878 many special deputies were sworn in. This was during the time of the attempted uprising that was to take place near Waterproof. Deputy Sheriff George E. Wallace, was sworn in on September 24, 1888 for quarantine purposes at Brown's Landing in Tensas Parish. Sheriff Elliot Coleman was one of Huey Long's bodyguards. He was present when Dr. Weiss shot at Gov. Long, and in fact shot the assailiant.
