Scott Extracted from the Tensas Gazette of July 18, 1941 Stars and Stripes Wave at St. Joseph Messrs. Nicolina Bruno and Gasper Bruno of St. Joseph have erected a steel flag staff on their lot, corner Highway 65, and attached a U.S. flag, which a town employee raises each morning at sun-up and lowers at sun-down. Aside from the Joseph M. Davidson memorial at the local high school, including a 60 foot flag staff from which a flag is flown daily, between sun and sun, during school session, the flag staff erected by Bruno brothers is the only one in town. However, a flag is raised daily at the post office flying from roof of building, and a flag is likewise displayed daily from office of Young & Watson, at Court House square. In 1918, when the United States declared war against Germany, the Police Jury erected a 60 ft pole in front of Court House, each morning at sun-up raising 1 12x20 flag. Decaying with age this pole has long since been taken down, and the flag likewise went to pieces. Should the United States find necessary to enter the war now prevailing we guess a new flag staff will be raised in front of the Court House.
