All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ********************************************** Funeral services for Mr. Wilson Lindsey Coit, age 88, of Newell- ton, were held at Newellton Union Church at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, November 10, 1999, with Rev. Arthur Strickland and Rev. Clyde Ray Weber officiating. Burial followed at the Legion Memorial Cemetery in Newellton under the direction of Crothers Glenwood Funeral Home of Tallulah. Coit, a native of Enterprise, Mississippi, was born on September 15, 1911 and died after a lengthy illness on November 8, 1999, at Vicksburg Medical Center in Vicksburg, Mississippi. He had been a resident of Newellton for 72 years. Surviving him is his wife of 62 years, Elizabeth Netterville Coit, two daughters, Elizabeth Ann Coit Forster, of Covington, Louis- iana, and Mary Lynn Coit McMains of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, a son-in- law, Rep. F. Charles McMains, Jr. and five grandchildren, Robert Sharp Forster, Jr., Elizabeth Lyndsey Forster, Francis Charles McMains, III, Daniel Coit McMains, and Cooper Greer McMains. He also had numerous nieces and nephews. Mr. Coit was a graduate of Newellton High School. He was em- ployed first at the Bank of St. Joseph and then at Fisher Lumber Company. He spent most of his career as owner of Coit Chevrolet Company and its accompanying John Deere dealership. Mr. Coit and Mr. Ben Burnside enjoyed many years of business partnership in Burnside's Antiques. He was a World War II veteran, member of the Rotary Club, and a Presbyterian at the Newellton Union Church. Serving as pall bearers were his four grandsons, as well as Frank R. Burnside, Jr., Nathan O. Kifer, Alan Clyde Doyle, and Julius Greer McMains. Honorary pallbearers were Frank Burnside, Ben Burn- side, Jr., Jack Mabray, Maurice Watts, Williams Welch, Jay Magoun, Pat Williams, and James C. Wilkerson.
