Obituary for Mrs.Ann Eliza Guthrie, Tensas Parish Louisiana 1832-1910 Submitted by Edith Ziegler, 03 OCT 1999 ********************************************** Copyright. All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ********************************************** Mrs. Ann Eliza Guthrie, born Taylor, widow of Martin Guthrie died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Jack Johnson in this parish at 11 o'clock on Saturday night, June 19th at the age of 78 years. Deceased is survived by four children, Mrs. Kate Guthrie Johnson, Mr. Jeff D. Guthrie, Mr. Pink D. Guthrie and Mrs. Annie Guthrie Blanche, all residents of this parish. Mrs. Guthrie was a native of DeSoto County Tennessee. Her early childhood was spent in the State of Mississippi, where she moved with her parents. At the age of 17 she was married to Martin Guthrie, a resident of this parish and one of the pioneer settlers of Tensas, whom she survived. Since her marriage her home has been in Tensas, where she reared her family and earned the sincere love and respect of all who knew her as a noble woman, a splendid mother and wife, an earnest and devout Christian, whose life was lived as a radiant example of the pure faith of one who believes. In the hour of suffering, when it was known that natures debt must be paid, she was surrounded and ministered to by those that were dearest, and all that skill and love could do to alleviate suffering and stay the hand of death was done. Across the border of life, into the vast eternity all that was mortal has passed, and though it be not given to us to know the reasons that govern the workings of the Divine Law, we do know that she has reaped that great reward of pure bliss that Christian faith and Christian love deserve.
